Taking Off Shoes

Japanese are frequently asked, "Why do you take off shoes in a Japanese home?"

Having lived in the U.S. for more than 10 years and well understanding that American people and other peoples in the world do not take off shoes, I still don't understand why they don't want to follow the Japanese way, which is very comfortable.

Even though you don't have a custom to take off shoes inside a house, you would like to take off shoes if you have athlete's foot, right?

As discussed before (see Private Room - Car), some Japanese take off shoes even in a car.

I still think it better to take off shoes to relax better and can't think of any reasons not to do it...
