The 5th General Election of a Japanese girls group, AKB48, was taken place last night in Japan time (see
Japanese Girls Group - Social Phenomenon for details of the election) by gathering around 70,000 people in the large stadium with several satellite places.
Surprisingly, Rino Sashihara won the 1st place (4th last year), followed by Yuko Oshima, who was a top last year.

As mentioned in
Japanese Girls Group - Social Phenomenon, Rino Sashihara used to be in AKB48 but was transferred out to a local group (sister group of AKB48) due to a love affair she had, which is strictly prohibited in the group.
With the fact that the election is voted by fans of AKB48 and its sister units, I think the election result reflects fans' protest to the strict policy for a love, which was set by Yasushi Akimoto, a producer of the AKB48 and its sister groups.

Requiring girls of around 20's not to love is unnecessarily strict. Rino Sashihara's case is not only one, but other member also had an affair, and she apologized by shaving her head.

Other news in relation to the election is that Mariko Shinohara, who won the 5th last night, announced her leaving from the group (called "graduation") in next month.

Mariko Shinohara is 27 years old and can't follow the strict rule for love anymore?
As overall, the popularity of AKB48 seems finally fading out, which I believe worries many adults ripping off those young girls.
